About Salford Quays
Salford Quays, once called the Salford Docks, were built as part of two sections which culminate into the Manchester Docks. Originally built by the Manchester Ship Canal Company and opened by Queen Victoria, it spans 120 acres of water and 1,000 acres of land.
One of the most interesting attractions of Salford Quays is the Lowry, a performing arts center at the end of Pier 8. It showcases a unique collection of work, including that of the founder, L.S. Lawry. Another attraction is MediaCityUK, which is located on Pier 9 and houses five departments of the BBC. These departments include BBC Sport, BBC Radio Five Live, BBC Children’s, BBC Children’s Learning, and parts of BBC Future Media and Technology.
For shopping, Lowry Outlet Mall is a wonderful place to visit and features many businesses. Salford Quays also features several residential areas including Merchants Quay, Grain Wharf and Labrador Quay, in the low rise section and Imperial Point, Sovereign Point, the NV Buildings and City Lofts in the high rise section.
